Top Tips for Time Management in 2014

2013 has come to a close and while we're hoping it was a prosperous one for your businesses, we're guessing like most entrepreneurs, you see room for improvement. Well, one of the easiest ways to make sure your business continues to grow is to make sure you're using your time as effectively as possible. As put it in a recent post, "Time management is something truly worth investing in if you want to take your career, business or any area of your life forward." We couldn't agree with them more. That's why we thought we'd share with you some of their top tips for time management so that you can make 2014 your best year yet:

1.) Take the first 30 minutes of your day to plan your day and make allowance for interruptions.

2.) Keep a diary to record your thoughts, conversations and actions.

3.) Schedule set times in the day for checking mails and returning phone calls. Don't be tempted by that little pop-up box in the right-hand bottom corner of your screen each time a new mail comes in. In fact, you can turn those notifications off completely.

4.) Make a to-do list - not one with 30 items that makes you feel like you've accomplished nothing at the end of the day because you've only ticked off five things. Make a list that feels attainable.

5.) Don't bite off more than you can chew. Always carefully consider projects and the amount of time you have available to complete them before taking responsibility for them. This will eliminate unnecessary stress and failures.

6.) Set deadlines - real ones - and post them where you can see them at all times.

7.) Stop multitasking! Multitaskers often think they are getting more things done because they do so many things at the same time. Not true. If you want to be focused and move forward in 2014, you need to focus on one task at a time.

8.) Learn to delegate. This is probably one of the best things you can do to free up time for more important things. Delegate the things that you don't have to do yourself.

9.) Remember that it's impossible to get everything done. Also, remember that the odds are that 20 percent of your thoughts, conversations and activities produce 80 percent of your results.

10.) Don't forget to include your personal life and downtime in your daily time management.
